My interest in programmable weaving started in India with a grant to study brocade weaving with the jala, a precursor to punch card tachnology that eventually led to digital weaving. Tapa cloth is made from the inner bark of mulberry trees. The tapa that I use was made in Tonga by the late Emalata Kaufusi Tua Lanisi and her community.
